Mid-Week Munchies: Homemade Rice Cereal

My baby girl turned 6 months today! It doesn't seem like 1/2 year has gone by since she was born! She started eating rice cereal two days ago. I made it from scratch and she seems to be enjoying it! She is still learning how to swallow food from a spoon. Most of the time she takes it off the spoon then she just stares at you with it all puddled up in her mouth! I'm sure she will get the hang of it soon!

Here's how I made the rice cereal! I started with:
  • 1/4 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water

1. Bring water to a boil. Add rice, cover and simmer for 2 hours.

2. Strain and reserve liquid.

3. Add rice to blender. Add reserved liquid, breast milk, or formula for desired consistency. (I added about 1 1/2 oz. breast milk for a very liquidy consistency.)

4. Puree until smooth.

5. Divide into portions and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days!

Reheat by placing in warm water. I read a helpful hint that said if it feels warm to you then it is probably too warm for your baby because they are much more sensitive than we are! You may need to add a little water, breast milk, or formula when you reheat. Enjoy!

  1. Happy six month birthday! This is so helpful... and I want a blender like that. I pinned this for when Noah starts feeding. It's all happening so fast!
