Monday's Get Fit Tip: 5 Minute Workouts

Being a mom means being busy! It can be difficult to find time to exercise no matter how good your intentions are! I believe that anything is better than nothing! If you can find just 5 minutes several times throughout the day, you can strenghten your body, become more fit, and be more healthy! Try to squeeze 5 minutes in:

• when baby takes a nap
• when baby can entertain him/herself in a bouncer or swing
• before baby wakes up in the morning
• after baby goes to bed in the evening
• when dad gives baby a bath

Here are some 5 minutes workouts!

Cardio

• 45 seconds jumping jacks
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds jump squats (start in standing position, squat down to touch the ground them jump up as high as you can with arms over head)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds running stairs (high knees if you don't have stairs)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds stair climber (start in plank position, bring right knee up to chest, then left, rapidly, keeping back straight)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds punches (in squat position punch at shoulder level, rapidly switching arms)
• 15 seconds rest

Upper Body

• 45 seconds push ups
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds chair triceps (stand with your back to a chair, squat down with hands on seat, use arms to raise and lower your body without sitting on the floor)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds bicep curls (use weights, canned goods, gallon of water, etc.)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds push ups
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds chair triceps
• 15 seconds rest

Lower Body

• 45 seconds wall sit
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds calf raises
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds squats
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds glute triangles (face the floor on knees and elbows, raise one leg in the air parallel to the floor, tap down to the right, raise to the center, tap down to the left, raise center, repeat 10 times, switch legs)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds lunges
• 15 seconds rest

Abs

• 45 seconds bicycle (start in crunch position, bend and raise your legs, touch right elbow to left knee while extending right leg, switch back and forth)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 second plank (lay with stomach on floor, rest on your elbows and raise to your toes keeping a straight back, hold position)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds crunches
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds leg drops (lay on your back and contract your abs, raise both legs perpendicular to the floor, drop them down to the floor and use your abs to pull them back up)
• 15 seconds rest
• 45 seconds reverse crunches (lay on back with knees bent and raised, use abs to pull your legs/lower back of the ground and toward your chest, lower back down)
• 15 seconds rest

You will feel so much better doing something than doing nothing!
